Possible culprits in congenital heart defects identified

Mitochondria are the power plants of cells, manufacturing fuel so a cell can perform its many tasks, and also are well-known for their role in cell death. School of Medicine researchers and colleagues have shown they also orchestrate events that determine a cell’s future, at least in the embryonic mouse heart. Their study identifies new potential genetic culprits in the origins of some congenital heart defects. Shown is an image of a normal heart.

Students celebrate Car-Free Month with bike-in movie at Forest Park

WUSTL students kicked off Car-Free Month Oct. 4 with a bike-in movie at Forest Park. Today is the last day to sign up for the Car-Free Challenge. Other events this month include free bike tune-ups, bike rides and the MetroLink Prom.

Strittmatter wins 2013 NFF National High School  Scholar-Athlete Award

WUSTL freshman wide receiver Zach Strittmatter is one of five winners of the 2013 National Football Foundation (NFF) National High School Scholar-Athlete Award, the NFF and College Hall of Fame recently announced.
